BMW X6 M Competition

Powerful and hybrid

The aesthetic changes may not very noticeable, but they were enough to give it an even stronger presence on the road. The changes in physiognomy are evident and don’t escape the most attentive looks. The sports car is one of the first M with electrification, having been given the 48-volt hybrid-light system in the 4.4 V8 engine. And, making its debut, LED matrix headlights with the ‘Selective Beam’ anti-glare system.
After presenting the redesign of the ‘normal’ versions of the X5 and X6, BMW has now shown the visual and mechanical changes it has introduced to the M Competition versions of its SUVs. The sports cars are the first M with electrification. 
Visually, the changes follow what had already been seen on the duo mentioned above. The front has been given slimmer headlights and bumpers with straighter lines, identifying the M Competition range with a large black stripe. The double kidney grille bars are now horizontal, enhancing the front bumper design with more prominent air intakes. Matrix LED headlights are a first, with a ‘Selective Beam’ anti-glare system. The rear remains almost unchanged, with a redesign of the diffuser and rear lights.
The more powerful road presence is further enhanced by new alloy wheels (21 inches at the front and 22 inches at the rear) and carbon fibre mirror mouldings. Inside, BMW’s Curved Display makes a debut, which joins the 12.3-inch instrumentation display with the 14.9-inch infotainment screen. An installation that forced a rethink of the dashboard design, thus making the analogue buttons disappear.
The V8 4.4 twin turbo engine has a new exhaust manifold, a new intake, better turbo pressure control and a new oil pump. 
The system integrated into the eight-speed automatic gearbox now gives an additional 9 kW (12 hp) and 200 Nm momentarily to the original 625 hp and 750 Nm. The car reaches 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and although the top speed is limited to 250 km/h, with the M Driver package, that electronic barrier is lifted to hit 290 km/h.
As a true M, this new X6 has been given suspension with improved shock absorbers, more direct steering and several driving settings, with levels of action of traction and stability control, and carbon-ceramic brakes to modulate pedal action according to the chosen driving mode. In conjunction with the active rear differential, the traction system allows the reactions of the SUV and SUV coupe to be even faster and more precise.
The BMW X6 M Competition thus reveals itself to be a very interesting toy that has a starting price of 231,000 Euros.
