Cape Kidnappers

The dazzle of the Pacific Ocean

PMmedia Adv.
New Zealand’s incomparable landscapes captivate the imagination of anyone. That’s what happens when you set foot on the superb golf courses dotted around the country: they're second to none. As a matter of fact, these are some of the best golf courses in the world. There are more than 400 courses scattered all over the territory. And this time we're going to talk about Cape Kidnappers. Located amidst unique natural landscapes, it celebrates its 20th anniversary next year and is one of the legendary courses designed by Tom Doak.
This course is one of the great modern wonders of golf. It has breath-taking cliff-side fairways perched 140 metres above sea level. But that’s not all. Every hole has spellbinding views over the bay and, even over ravines or cliffs, even the bunkers become challenging.
Cape Kidnappers Golf Course also has putting greens and chipping greens, a clubhouse and a golf shop. The par 71 course, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, is more than 6,500 metres long and challenges golfers from all over the world to an exhilarating round. In a remarkable setting.

Cape Kidnappers is about 40 minutes by car from the harbour and 10 minutes by helicopter
And what about the rules? The rules are not too different from the ones we already know: players must dress appropriately, which means no jeans, sweatpants, sandals or boots. But there is one detail: golf shoes with spikes are not allowed. What’s more, if you're travelling from abroad, first make sure your shoes, clubs and golf bags are clean. Otherwise, when you arrive in New Zealand, the biosecurity team will take longer to inspect the equipment you are carrying.
Cape Kidnappers is about 40 minutes by car from the harbour and 10 minutes by helicopter. On the other hand, if you want a different experience, the course team can provide a car and driver to pick you up from the ship, take a panoramic walk around Art Deco Napier, or visit the Hawke’s Bay wine region. Yes, these vineyards produce some of the best wines in the country!
There’s no shortage of reasons to visit. Cape Kidnappers is part of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux collection, a truly luxurious place to stay. High above the ocean, experience a moment of sheer contentment because, and as in the words of the architect responsible for the project, «the game is seaside golf at its finest».
